CIP is to help the Volunteer Associate Chaplain:
1) To provide spiritual guidance and counseling to all members of the community, youth, staff, volunteers and their families in time of need;
2) To assist the people of the community through a field service ministry; and
3) To provide guidance, counseling and comfort in times of crisis.
The Chaplain should be able to put people in contact with the appropriate agency or agencies to help them.
The Chaplaincy Internship Program (CIP), affords lay and clergy opportunity to study together to learn about correctional, hospital, hospice, and crisis counseling. This two-year program consists of 4 semesters of study plus a Field Practicum.
The Chaplaincy Internship Program is vitally important to reaching this mission field as we equip pastors, ministers, evangelist, chaplains, and lay leaders to provide pastoral care in their communities. For too long, correctional ministry has been a neglected area of study within Christian higher education, without an established core curriculum or a practical center of focused activity. The CIP is not accredited by any theological academic institution or higher learning school. However, the Director of CIP is a licensed and trained professional in the fields of correctional ministry, hospital and crisis counseling. The Chaplaincy Internship Program began in 2000, and has trained more than 100 students. Many of whom are working in the field or who have gone on to receive additional training.
